Today, Disney Interactive Studios announced Disney Infinity via a special event at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood and followed up by a post over on The Walt Disney Company’s official blog. Being published by Avalanche Software, the new game will use figures to bring toys into the video game world of Infinity where they can experience stories based in Disney film and television franchises, such as The Incredibles and Monsters University, where they can collect various elements from each world and keep them in the “Toy Box”. You can then use the items you’ve gathered to create your own levels. If you’ve played the current console adaptions of Toy Story 3, you’d have a general idea of how this’ll work as that game had a similar mode. Check out the first trailer for an idea:
The big hook is the use of the figures, similarly to Activision’s Skylanders franchise. The first “Play Set” will include the game, an Infinity base, a Captain Jack Sparrow figure, a Mr. Incredible figure, and a James P. Sullivan figure. Also shown on the home screen of the official website are characters from the Cars, Nightmare Before Christmas, Phineas & Ferb, Wreck-It Ralph, and Toy Story franchises.
