The 22 winners of the biggest public choice award for computer and video games are announced.
The Pan-European gaming industry recently celebrated the European Games Award in Cologne, Germany. The biggest best games and biggest personalities of the past year were celebrated during a ceremony, as a prelude to the GamesCom trade fair in Cologne.
Over 230.000 votes have been submitted and a new record has been broken in the biggest online voting for games in Europe.
Games, developers, publishers, magazines, and platforms from 15 European countries competed for this much sought-after prize. The jury has chosen the 100 best titles out of more than 400 computer- and videogames, which have been developed in the last year in Europe, but left the final choice of the favorites to the games fans. The voting was carried out in over 20 categories.
The biggest winners this year are the Polish triple-A production “The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings”, as well as the Swedish first-person shooter “Battlefield 3”. Developer CD Projekt RED secured six awards with the second part of the “Witcher”, including “Best European Character Design” and “Best European Game Design”, also scooping the overall “Best European Game. “Battlefield 3” stood up to the competitors as the best European action, multiplayer and console game that was also accompanied by the “Best European Sound”. Wargaming.net from Belarus is the „Best European Publisher” of the last year and their announced MMO game “World of Warplanes” has been chosen “Europe’s Most Wanted Online Game“.
The “Personality Award” was handed over to Markus Persson – the developer of “Minecraft”. His open world game won two categories: “Best European Indie Game” and “Best European Community“. Furthermore, Goodgame Studios developed the “Best European Browser Game” with „Good Game Empire“.
The prize-winners of each category were announced and awarded during the ceremony on the sailing event location Pure-liner 1. The present winners received their European Games Award on-stage from Charles Cecil (Revolution Software), Karl Magnus (DICE), Victor Kislyi (Wargaming.net) and many more. Finally, like every year the organizer Aruba Events GmbH invited all guests to an exclusive after show party among the celebrated European Games Award winners.
