With E3 in less than a week, the big names are starting to crop up and of course Microsoft has started showing off their biggest franchises, starting with the one that made Xbox a household name: Halo. But, if you’re looking for the same-old Master Chief game, you’re looking in the wrong place. Being developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Games, Halo: Spartan Assault finds players taking control of Commander Sarah Palmer in a top-down action shooter and if you’re not up to speed, Palmer was featured in the Spartan Ops episodic DLC in Halo 4. Here we get to see her rise in the ranks as she is sent on the first mission of the Spartan Ops program between the stories of Halo 3 and Halo 4. The biggest surprise to the game is the intended platform: Spartan Assault is being developed for Windows 8 tables/PCs and Windows Phone 8, not consoles or PC. But, Halo 4 won’t be left out as playing the mobile game will unlock goodies in the console game, such as emblems for online or XP. Wanna see how this will look in action? Check out the announcement trailer below.
Promising “best-in-class graphics and audio” and “easy pick-up-and-play gaming”, Halo: Spartan Assault is set for release on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 platforms next month, July 2013.
