Is Bioshock infinite the best game of our generation?

I  have toyed with the idea of this article for sometime now, wondering whether I should make it a review piece, a feature of just, well, a news addition and I have been unable to reach any proper conclusion on what this is actually going to be, but what I do know is that it will definitely not be a review.
I want to address the game Bioshock Infinite and the potential for it to be the best game of our generation (you could go as far as to say of all time, really). Currently, with a Metacritic score of 95 (PC), it leads the ranking table by some 3 points, but it also has scores of over 90 on all platforms, which is something you very rarely see these days. If a game plays well on the PC, you will often find that the port to consoles has failed in some way and led to a whole host of negative reviews, but there is none to be found for BI.

I’m not usually one to believe hype around games, choosing instead to play the game myself and judge it only of the way it played in my opinion. Now, I have played Bioshock Infinite and I can certainly confirm that, for me at least, it ticks all the right boxes; The game looks beautiful, the storyline is deep and winding, the control and tempo of the game is great and the character development is some of the best I have ever seen, and I have played The Witcher, so you know that is a solid compliment to the title.  With all that being said, though, for me there is something missing that has denied the game my full attention for the past week.

Dead Space 3 is a game that has a far lower Metascore, but it is a game that held my attention for much longer. I will go back to Bioshock Infinite, there is no doubt about that, but the point is when will I do that and why. I’d like to think I would have the game finished in the next couple of weeks, but I honestly do not know if that is true. For me, Bioshock Infinite is not the best game of our generation and I sincerely believe that title to go to Half Life but with so many of my friends and so much of the internet, singing praise for the game so loudly, it honestly does make me wonder, just how many of you, our readers, believe it to be the best game you have played.

So, I shall arrive at the point of the article. I would very much welcome the opinions of the GYJS readers. I want to know what YOU thought about the game. I head away to Italy this coming Sunday, for 2+ weeks work in the sun, but I will not have access to gaming at all so I would like to keep entertained on the subject, be it via messages or comments. Let me know what it is you thought of the game, where they could have done better and what you believe was revolutionary about the title.

I’d love to be able to comment properly, but until I sort out my computer, I get frozen out within 3 seconds of the first cut scene 🙁
