Lego Batman-The Video Game

Lego Batman-The Video Game
4.5/5 Review Score:

For all of you crime fighter fans out there, Lego Batman is really fun and a nice spin on a comic book super hero’s story. To see your well known Batman characters and surroundings in Lego form, gives it a whole new and exciting feel. Growing up playing with Legos is so different from having Legos today. And to now have them in video games and as your favorite comic book characters is freaking awesome!!

The story takes place, of course, in Gotham City as every Batman story does. The game does not follow the plots of any of the movies, but takes place when all of the dangerous foes of Batman’s past escape from Arkham Asylum and reek havoc on the city. They split up into groups and take hostages with plans of greed, power, and corruption. Each group is lead by powerful, notorious villains: Riddler, Penguin, and Joker. Each hoping to take Batman down and control the city once and for all. Batman and Robin must defeat them all and gain back control of Gotham City.Lego Batman

All the well known heroes and villains of the Batman story are also included. Lego Batman heroes and unlockable players are: Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing. Lego Batman villains and unlockable characters are: Riddler, Clayface, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, Bane, Man-Bat, Catwoman, Killer Croc, Mad Hatter, Harley Quinn, Killer Moth, and of course Joker. As you fight crime throughout the city you solve lots of puzzles, walk on tight ropes, and collect Lego studs that are used as “money” to upgrade and buy more weapons, suits, and characters. In some of the levels you get to use vehicles such as the Batmobile, Batboat, and the Batwing.

Each Lego Batman character has additional suits besides their original to help you along the way. Batman gets the Glide suit (for flying for a short period of time), Sonic suit (it can break through glass), Heat Protection suit (helps you survive in extreme temperatures), and the Demolition suit (allows you to plant explosives). Robin acquires the Technology suit (to operate tech panels), the Water suit (to survive under water), the Attract suit (to vacuum up Lego pieces and put them together for bonuses), and the Magnet suit (to allow Robin to walk up magnetic walls). Batgirl can use the same suits as Batman and Nightwing can use the same suits as Robin. When you open up the suits in the story mode, you can then access them while playing in free play mode (which allows you to play through already beaten levels with any character you have opened up or unlocked).

If you’ve ever seen a Batman movie, then you know the soundtrack is phenomenal. The music is so strong and really pulls the movie together. Tim Burton has such an ear for picking the music for his movies. Danny Elfman, who has done music for sensational films such as Beetlejuice, Batman, Hulk, Sleepy Hallow, Spider Man 1 & 2, and all three of the Men In Black series, also Secretsdoes the score of Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film for the game. Lego Batman features music by Danny Elfman from Tim Burton’s Batman. This music really makes the atmosphere of the game much more empowering. It really makes you feel like you are living the story of Batman.

So if you are a fan of Batman, check out Lego Batman. It’s a fun way to be the Dark Knight and kick some villain booty. After beating the story of the game you can go through the villain’s side of the story and open up all of the villain characters to play as. And you can go through every level on Free Play mode with every character for more things to open. This game has a ton of replay value. It’s just a blast.

I give this game a 5/5.
