Big news out of Japan this morning! Nintendo has officially announced Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for the Nintendo 3DS. This is not a big surprise, considering the previous entries, White 2 and Black 2, were released for the original DS after the 3DS’s release. So, of course they’re going to jump onto the new hardware. The bigger surprise? It’ll be the first 3D entry in the main series, with the gameplay developed for the 3DS’s capabilities. The Pokémon battles will be rendered in 3D as well, not unlike the Coliseum and Battle Revolution on consoles. But, unlike those games, they will be in a cartoonish style, keeping the original art style in spirit.
Also announced were three new Pokémon, and following tradition they are the Grass-type starter, Chespin; Fire-type starter, Fennekin; and the Water-type starter, Froakie. The two supposedly-Legendary Pokémon to be front and center on the box were also featured, but weren’t named.
