12 years after teasing buses were coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2, they finally arrive

You know how it is: you think you will miss it, so you rush to the bus stop and then arrive 12 years later. Typical. The makers of Euro Truck Simulator 2 have shown a short trailer with a big European coach. It will quickly add some form of driving bus to meet the long forgotten bullying that the developer first created on a cloudy day in 2013.

The trailer is included in a quick Steam update post, showing a large white bus being pulled out from behind the Scania truck. surprise! The game is basically Euro Truck and/or Bus Simulator 2.

“We crossed borders, carried cargo and explored countless cities across Europe,” says developer SCS Software. “But, just like a great journey, the roads are always full of surprises. Different things are drawn into your vision. A new way to experience the world of Euro Truck Simulator 2. See you at your next destination.”

The developers haven’t stated exactly what shape the bus will take or what unsolicited road carriages will be displayed (please, not Megabus), but that will probably be a big DLC pack. It is the culmination of desires that developers seem to have embraced for over a decade. They first contemplated the possibility of adding a bus in February 2013, writing in a blog post that they were “exploring opportunities to go beyond the tracks,” saying, “recording sounds and taking photos of the Scania Touring HD bus.” However, these plans seem to be delayed on the roadside until now.

It’s a comfortable possibility for some, but not surprising to all. Some players have noted the emergence of more detailed bus stops along normal trucking routes in recent updates, saying that the busing of SIMs makes sense. The others on the game’s Steam forum look gross, but the fact that the bus doesn’t get its own dedicated SIM. No matter how it feels, it’s a move in line with recent plans for the studio of American Truck Simulator, another SIM that plans to introduce driveable pickup trucks and other small cars as part of the “road trip” expansion.
