Elden Ring Nightrign is here, selling 2 million copies on its first day and after becoming a developer from its second-largest launch on Steam, the dust has begun to settle down, creating the impressions of thousands of players.
This was the studio’s first multiplayer, the Co-op Only title, so there were no teething issues, but what many people didn’t rely on is how outdated and often confused many aspects of the game are.

This all began with the whole discussion of the lack of single-player and DUOS support. In the first example, fromsoftware actually implements some changes to the patch set arriving this week, which should make it a little more manageable for solo players. No official duo support has been announced, but Modders already has a solution.
Away from that, playing the game the way it is intended to expose many issues that players don’t have to contest for years.
Each character in the game has its own quest. Players need to do this if they want to develop that particular character. However, players quickly discovered that if they started the quest right away, they would be placed in the matchmaking pool with other players who also went to the quest.
This sounds good in theory, but the problem is that matchmaking takes a lot longer when you want your next expedition to be something that involves character quests. This game doesn’t clearly convey this to players, but even the run itself is hard for other players on the team to realize that one team has the quest they are aiming for.
You can always try to try those quest runs, but as we have established, Nightreign is not kind to solo players. There is also an issue where players may end a quest but do not get the quest items needed to proceed to the next step. The running theory is that if multiple members of a team need the same item, only one of them can get it.
Players also suffer from a variety of issues with the lack of basic features that most modern multiplayer games offer. For example, there is no option to abandon a run as a full team. There is no way to vote to finish your run early.
Unfortunately, quitting before the expedition ends comes with its own penalty. This is likely added as a way of preventing players from dropping or abandoning their teammates.
With this style of logelite games, there is also the issue of how the game announces server-wide maintenance, even putting aside the fact that bad runs are inevitable.
The start screen currently does not indicate that maintenance is about to begin, warning players not to jump on the expedition. The game will flash that warning for the player 10 minutes before, but only FPRs that are already in the middle of running will be displayed. That means you need to do as much as you can or you need to leave. And as we just explained, there is no option to finish the run gracefully.
These and some others are all issues that really hinder the experience for many, especially those who are used to more modern non-zero games. If you’re pushing regardless, Elden Ring Nightrign Guide will become a loyal companion. We recently ranked all the night roads in the game and published the Revenant Build Guide.
