We're actually getting an official new Thief game, but there's a major catch

new thief game. For those who remember the Dark Project, the Metal Age, and the Year of the Fatal Shadow Halcyon, it certainly is one of the most pleasant sentences you can imagine, especially when stabbed in Square Enix’s questionable 2014 reboot. And yes, it’s happening. The series that defined Stealth, inspired Deus Ex, and Garrett was finally officially back. But I’m afraid to say there’s a catch. Depending on your hardware setup, the new thief game, Legacy of Shadow, may be off limits for you. This is once again a half-life Alix.

Eidos-Montréal, Metro Awakening developers Vertigo Games, Maze Theory and Thief Legacy of Shadow are VR exclusive. You play the young thief Magpie and suffer under the control of the Draconia of Northcrest Lord. They may not be Garrett, but Magpie certainly has stealth game icon cape and trademark mechanical eyes. Below you can see the action in Legacy of Shadow of Shadow.

Legacy of Shadow, revealed tonight in Sony Play State, is set to be released for Steam VR, Meta Quest and PSVR2 at some point in 2025. You can see it hidden in the shadows, rock picking, roof running, and more. But I have to say, I wanted the thief’s return…well, not limited to VR. We’ll see what happens. In the meantime, if you wish, you can already wish for a legacy of the shadows of steam.

Or try other best VR games, or the best old ones.
