Life Sims have become perhaps one of the most saturated genres. Everyone wants to succeed in Stardew Valley, and while games like Disney Dreamlight Valley infuse the glow of a magical kingdom, Witchbrook puts a fantastic and playful horror spin on the genre. However, despite my attempts to stick to them in the same way that I crossed the animals, I have never realized I would end up with the spiritual successor of Stardew. after that Neverway It appeared, and that’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for.
Part-life games and part-RPGs, Neverway stabs you into the shoes of Fiona, a woman who recently quit her job. After jumping on a boat and selling to a remote island, she lives on a local farm. And unfortunately, it soon becomes the immortal conduit of a dead God. You are tasked with keeping your life on orbit while you search for the honorable Neverway, a creepy realm of universe that slowly leaks into your own.
As shown during the developer’s daytime, time progresses in three different stages: morning, afternoon, evening, story writer Isadora Sophia, in the coder, says this “you can choose when you fight or when you want to take a break, so that you can set your own pace.”
Speaking of battles, combat is similar to other life sims, but with a unique twist. You can create a variety of weapons, exchange swords for grapple hooks and more, and when you become friends with locals you will get an upgrade to truly customize your battle style.
Socialization is important, allowing you to become friends across 10 different characters, each with its own routine and characteristics. They have their own cutscenes and likes and dislikes, so if you want to calm down or assert your strength more selfishly, you need to win them. Do you lie and cheat, or will you become an honest partner? The Neverway slowly but surely plantes its winding plates in our territory, so you probably need to make some difficult choices.
For me, it’s the art style that really makes something unique. Those moody purples and vibrant greens make Stardew feel like a distorted twist, taking a pixel vibe that we know and love, and we take on the head.
Colblood has yet to reveal the release date for Neverway, but I can’t wait to dive in. If you’re as intrigued as me, you can hope for it here.
In the meantime, if Neverway’s creepy Lovecraftian Feel is what attracted you, then we have a list of all the best horror games.
