Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and Pathfinder: Kingmaker developer Owlcat Games is challenging the realm of “hard science” with Osiris Reborn: Osiris Reborn, a new RPG based on James Sa Corey’s novel and Syfy TV Adaptations. This is an original story about casting you as a Pink Water Security mercenary who has begun to be trapped at Eros Station, an asteroid base that has undergone a radical change in television shows. The game is inspired by Bioware’s Mass Effect series, with “tactical” third-person combat featuring two Ally characters and a cover mechanic. Also the crew romance. This is the trailer.

In a press release, Game Design producer Yuliya Chernenko commented, “The original Mass Effect Trilogy was absolutely inspiration for the team,” and said it was “iconal for the Xbox 360 generation gamers.” I was going to get a snobby about nodding to the console, but then I realized that this sentence was a mass effect and a burn of Lomeda’s illness.
Aside from that 360 idea, Osiris Reborn’s combat “reflects modern standards of action gameplay.” I’m not convinced by Ouracat’s ability to develop real-time mass effects style team action experiences, but there’s plenty of upfront to the kind of crew relationship dynamics and political tensions seen in both mass effects and spread.
While I’m pasting these bulletin features, please evacuate behind the nearest knee high surface.

Developers are struggling to reassure them that they have an entirely new team working on this, and reassure them that they don’t overlap with other projects in Owlcat, including the recently released Warhammer 40,000: Dark Eresy. They are working with Alcon Interactive Group and publishers of The Expanse: A Telltale Story.
