Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii review

Like a Dragon: The Hawaiian pirate yakuza made me smile a lot, but I think the people at RGG need to take a break for a few years. Watch some movies. I have some cocktails. Get inspiration again, do you know? Just as the high seas are a shelter for yakuza or bankruptcy scoundrels who have been sheltered by the Brawler-RPGs packed by the game packed into, the game feels like the last calling port in the studio that cuts down the bottom of the Grog Barrel.

I smiled a lotHeart. It’s difficult not to get Majima back. Moisturizes and thrives, driving a 6-inch tant knife into the man’s kidneys, mildly rude to him on the beach, and monkeys petting him and lure him to the zoo. He is now the captain of a pirate ship and is awake on a strange island with no memory of his yakuza past, but with the same sense of fair play and man’s diseased talent for the theatrical Shan King. Plus, he’s already sorting the eye patches.

Why are there actual, cannon-wielding, Tricone-headed pirates off the coast of Hawaii? shhh. Just get on the boat. you do Find the idea that Majima is a fun pirate enough to last 25 hours. I hope this short side entry in the series isn’t too wasteful thin.

There are two perpetrators to do this. One is a brilliantly ending story, but it feels heavy, old and lacking, holding on to the Yakuza melodrama with its long stretches. The other is that sailing and ship combat is not very good. The riffable, witty approach to RGG development is a real balm for the stupidest excess of this extremely stupid industry, but real-time pirate ship combat was, in hindsight, an ambiguous port of a series that builds real analogs and skeletons.

In addition to using ship weapons, Majima can also fire smoke screens to extinguish fires to revive the crew, tackle crow nests, and leave the wheels to use the bazooka. There’s no need to do this alone. |

It has a salty, heavy sound design that is aided by crashing the waves. And yes, obviously, the laser cannon, coconut machine gun, Ono Michio Mastheads is a fun addition. However, if you spend time upgrading Golomal, everything except the toughest ships will melt in seconds and melt into weapons that don’t feel that good to use. There’s so much to do, so you can see the logic behind you wanting to keep individual activities lighter, but you’re not here to play crazy delivery or trivia quiz again. I’m here to become a pirate. There are thin lines between the light and just plain paper, and the pirate yakuza trips where it is necessary to nail the most painful footwork.

It feels like a mini-game given to Center Stage. Wow, flaked Deccaswaver was rushed to promote when the previous first buddy was unexpectedly headbutted from the deck by an infuriated parrot. It’s a yakuza, so obviously there are great animation and transitional boarding cutscenes, but there’s no mistake. This is not a (eye) patch of the rigorous crushing, Surf Quaking pirate fantasy black flag that was pulled out 13 years ago.

And sailing is slow. Two different boosts and Superman 64 wind tunnels promote your journey across the ocean, but you’re 100% sure to hear Kiriu’s singing judgments on the playlist 100 times and feel some movement. The reward is worth having, so you’ll probably hold it down like I did. There are islands that fight for sinking pirates and for treasure, cash and points to spend on upgrades. There are also dozens of statistical rings placed on the menu screen, slotting into Majima’s fingers to see a smirk at the distance he glitters. Your exact ring also appears in the Goro model and cutscene – a gorgeous touch that smirks me.

Majima and his crew are fighting a gang of pirates on the island.
You will occasionally fight big battles with the crew you have gathered through exploration and side stories. There are some colorful characters, but compared to past entries, I feel the battle itself is substantial and lacks challenge and depth. |

Except what you might actually want to do do not have Both Majima’s fighting styles are so cruelly efficient that you should wear those rings just to handicap yourself, as all the battles of that great Yakuza dramatic struggle (most notably take bosses away. There is also little such diversity in the enemy move set. Or the battle ended so quickly that I barely realized what the enemy could do. Out of curiosity, I played the 2023 trajectory for the first time, but it’s shocking how good the game is all I like about this series.

In Gaiden’s first hours I fought the thugs along with the electrified stan umbrella and the cartrop – a skilled beef bastard demanding skillful maneuvering to break through their defenses. Pirate Yakuza combat becomes challenging when multiple gunmen lurking outside of camera range take a pot shot on you like a poltergibbon that shakes horrifying, invisible shit. Majima’s new hook shot is a great gap closer and summoning a demon ghost shark with a cursed fiddle is lovely nonsense, but if you have experience in Dragon Engine games you’ll want to highlight this and make it difficult to fight against undeniably stylish entities.

Pirate Yakuza Madrantis Pirate Paradise.
In the case of lawless pirate paradise, Madrantis is tamed. But it has a fun cannon baseball mini-game. |

At least Majima herself is still as attractive as ever, and the game is teeth interesting. As he begins the Petting Zoo quest, Goro finds himself in love with the chicken he destined for for the pot and rescues him. It cannot lay eggs, but after you feed it, it will inexplicably give your eggs. Shimano’s scurvy dog is also pushing the mid-60s now that the game is recognising and playing. My favorite was to reward you with a long quest chain for setting the ship’s Cook Masal on a date, and with some long live action sequences he drew it epicly flat.

“The Yakuza is a Serious Crime Drama” is a meme that finds the attached clip of the series’ stupidest, Campest moment, but that’s true too. These games are special. Because at the best, everything is good. A melodramatic, nervous, heartfelt story starring people answering phones like this. Last year’s infinite wealth provided wiser improvements than its predecessor, but this plot has made me cold. Without the truly slimy, threatening antagonists and ballasts of Underworld Grit, the absurdity would have nothing to fix it. There was no heart, but no real teeth.

Majima the cowboy hat.
Infinite wealth Hawaii can be fully explored with many of the same side activities and a new bounty hunt for Majima to earn cash from the battle. |

Pirate Yakuza even feel they have more legs. The thrilling and skilled fighting choreography is still here, but instead of fighting Kuze, Goda, or Koseishido, he fights a thinly sketched pirate named Keith. Noah is a member of Majima’s adventure. Noah is a likable Muppet Treasure Island Gym Hawkins type child who gives Goro the opportunity to play a nurturing role model. There is some integrity in the scenes they spent time with them at Revolve Bar, but the central family drama of the plot is a trend in Saccharin. Worst of all, this shit just swaks that much, it just prefers to set pieces for the finale. Again, it’s a great final hours, but the uneven voyage is on the way.

So, do you remember when I said I started Gaiden after I was finished, and when I quickly realized how good I would make it? It’s not just about combat. I can reluctantly forgive the fact that I can no longer give a cabaret club hostess a cold teriyaki burger caught from my back pocket, but even Gaiden’s opening hours are far more appealing here than anything else. The villain is better, the battle feels heavier, it looks better. To close it, it’s cheap. I don’t regret spending time with Majima again, but “free” ng+ or no, if I paid the full price for this, I felt good and really became hornswogged.
