Switch 2 sells record-breaking 3.5 million units in 4 days

The Nintendo Switch 2 has started with roud. Earlier on Wednesday, Nintendo announced it had sold 3.5 million new consoles in just four days, making Nintendo’s fastest console the fastest console ever.

“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2 as a way to upgrade at home and on the go,” Nintendo President Doug Bowser said in a statement. “We are grateful for their reaction and are pleased to see them already having fun with Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 promotional push didn’t go smoothly with chaotic advance bookings, concerns about the impact of US tariffs, and fans’ criticism of the system and the high prices of its games. However, the launch itself appears to have been discontinued. Nintendo’s efforts to make large quantities of stock available at launch have clearly paid off, with fans reporting consoles available for purchase in some areas despite record sales. So scalping was less of a problem than when other recent consoles were launched. There are no extensive reports of technical issues.

Nintendo estimates it plans to sell 15 million Switch 2 during the current fiscal year. Nintendo still faces the challenge of maintaining stock availability and extending the reach of this expensive console past the first wave of early adopters, but it is already on its path to that number. Once Switch 2 reaches its first year goal, they will be participating in other Nintendo Fasters Sellers, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 3DS and Original Switch during the year on sale.
