After the success of Avowed, first person RPG set in the same universe, it is difficult to know whether the third isometric pillar of the eternal game will come. But if that were the case, one of the key architects gave us a peek at what it looked like. In a new interview with RPG designer and author Josh Sawyer, he discusses his vision for what Eternal Pillar 3 It could be, and it’s very similar to Gate 3 of Baldur.
Pillars of Eternity remains one of the best RPG games, but it’s been seven years since the last entry in the franchise. Sawyer has some ideas on how to update the formula. He said, “I think the third game should be isometric 3D with an environment like Baldur’s Gate 3. I think it will work. And I think it’s really great. I think it’s easy to make art and be more dynamic. He also explains that he wants to work on a game that deepens the system of eternal pillars. These ideas will put it more in line with Baldur’s Gate 3’s flexible tactics.
Josh Sawyer has a long history in game development. He was the lead designer and project director for Fallout: New Vegas and the lead designer for Neverwinter Nights 2. His latest game was Pentiment, an adventure game that follows Bavarian artists in the era of reform. Both Pillars of Eternity Games were crowdfunded and released before Xbox acquired Obsidian in November 2018. You can read the full GamePressure interview at this link.
