Electronic Arts has cancelled the Black Panther game and closed the developer’s Cliff Hunger Games. First reporting the news, IGN quotes an internal email from EA Entertainment president Laura Miele, who notified staff about changes to sharpen our focus and place creative energy behind the most important growth opportunities.
“These decisions are difficult,” Miele writes for each IGN. “They influence people we worked, learned, and shared real moments. We’re doing everything we can to support them. We’ve managed to help people land in new roles, including finding opportunities within the EA.”
The email continues, detailing that EA will shift its resources to the historically successful battlefield, Sims, Skate and Apex Legends series. Miele also said that games based on Iron Man are still in the film, as well as the third entry in Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi series and the next entry in Bioware’s Mass Effect.
EA previously fired about 300 employees in April 2025 from both Respawn Entertainment and Electronic’s fan care team. At the time, EA reported that it effectively cancelled another unnamed game with the next Titanfall game and “early stage incubation”.
gripyajoystick will contact EA for comments and update with further information received this story.
Black Panther was first announced in 2023 by Marvel Games, EA, and Cliffhanger Games. The game was part of a three-game contract, including the Iron Man game developed by Marvel Games by Motive. EA founded the Seattle-based Cliff Hunger Games in 2023 and worked on the Black Panther Games. This coincided with the 57th anniversary of the hero. The studio, led by former monolith executive Kevin Stevens, was staffed by developers known for working on series such as Hello, God of War and Call of Duty.
According to a Marvel press release, the Black Panther game is “an original third person, single player Black Panther game… you can experience the mantle of Black Panther, Wakanda protector.”
