The Dark Fantasy Dungeon Crawler has just been revealed, so we’ll fire the “Free Game Alert” siren again. Health Lab You can maintain the steam completely freely for a limited period of time. Clearly in the upcoming sequel, the hidden gem of this hidden RPG has the darkest dungeon air about it, but will be charged now and stay in your library for the rest of the day.
I will never advise you to sell your soul to the devil, but that’s exactly what you do right away with a health slave. As the final ditch to try to defeat the powers of hell, you unite yourself to the devil to gain power from one of several demons. Acting essentially as your “class” in this RPG, you will be leaning towards your chosen demonic playstyle through your lineup of skill trees and combat abilities.
Like many beloved dungeon crawlers who have passed by years, you can explore top-down views, point-and-click style locations, and points of interest can each be lore, new abilities, or buffs can add to your repertoire, or bring combat encounters. Battles are guaranteed to occur when they are randomly triggered or when the threat level is at maximum.
The encounters are turn-based, but at subsequent stages of the game it is slow and less systematic. It has a huge deck of abilities and weapons to use. If you have had the pleasure of playing that series before, it gives you the darkest dungeon energy. Your own demonic power will of course help you in battle, but expect them to throw similar powers at you as you are facing hellish enemies. You can face off at once at a time, but encounters can throw multiple combatants in your way.
Though not the most popular RPG, this is a respected game with an 81% user rating on Steam. But with the aim of taking things further, solo developer ARS Goetia is creating a sequel, with Hellslave 2 trying to take its story and storytelling to a new level.
It is due to arrive in 2026, but to celebrate its release (and to help it spend time until it launches), the publisher’s dear villagers are handing out their first game at a low price.
Hellslave can keep steam free now, but until Monday, June 16th, you just have to insist on it and add it to your library. You can do so here. Oh, and if you’re away from there with a laugh at your face, you can always drop Hellslave 2 on your wish list here.
