Dynasty Warriors is a legendary IP for two main reasons. One is an unparalleled action series that balances power fantasy and battlefield management more than anything else. The second is a typical three kingdom series that enjoys romance, with plenty of stories focused on personality. However, given the age of the series, did you feel a little sick lately? That’s here Dynasty Warrior: Origin Step up to the plate.
The latest entry for the 27-year-old franchise, Dynasty Warrior: Origins does what the name applies exactly and throws players first into the saga of China during the three kingdom era. This begins with the very beginning of the Yellow Turban Rebellion and ends with a climactic battle that sets the future trends of China during the Battle of the Red Cliffs. Meanwhile, you will meet almost all the notable warriors and strategists during this period, most of whom can juggle the combo 50 guys at once. That’s exactly how people were at the time, don’t worry about it.

What’s unique about this entry and the retelling of the three Kingdoms era is the eyes you see. You control “unhonored heroes”, mystical amnesia with martial arts skills, and strange ability to see what others can’t. Not only will you discover the secrets behind the heart of the history of the dynasty warrior story, but in your position as your origin, this roaming neutral party, you can interact with everyone without fear of kicking your feet to mix too under the river.
It’s a totally great side story and a question. Who should rule in this era of China, and will they actually make people’s lives better, rather than prioritizing personal glory? In the end, it was the abuse of the Chinese people that led to the Yellow Turban rebellion. This question has permeated the game and is something you must face before ultimately selecting a side in a national conflict. But like all Dynasty Warriors games, I felt that emphasis would be a continuous shift towards larger companies like Sun CE, Cao Cao and Lu Bu. Why not do that? They are what people are here in the end.
Another thing you might be here is a game where you can sink for dozens of hours. Like a legacy game in the series. And if you’re hungry for perfectionism, you’ll be happy to chop up boxes and squeeze as many juices as possible, squeezing as many games as possible.
There are three main campaign passes, where you can build bonds with a new cast of characters and tackle new battles (or what you’ve done before, from a different perspective). He first hit credits 28 hours later, completing the Sankran Story. Doing this will not only unlock the Timeline menu, where you can go back and try the remaining two passes, but you can jump to a specific battle with a higher difficulty. Doing this will provide you with the most powerful equipment in the game, so if you’re struggling with the challenge, it’s rewarding.

But even if you’re not fussing about overcoming a difficult battle, there’s still a lot to do. All weapons have special unlockable moves that can be mastered through repeated use, with some attacks locking behind the bond level that you build by chatting with certain characters as you progress through the story. In other words, to master them all, you need to complete all three main passes. Maybe you should go back and defeat Lu Bu. Maybe you’ll get something special to do so. who knows.
Plus, I add my main desire to collect all hidden coins, maximize all weapon levels, maximize all bonds, and that 28 hours will quickly double. Even triple. It’s good value for money.
One particularly cool feature is the occasional split-up branch of the story. Despite the fact that the Three Kingdoms are historical stories from 1800 years ago, I will not ruin any particular twists or changes here. But let’s say you can probably do it Save a life. I couldn’t save it before because of the optional secret boss too strong to beat for the first time. Maybe with the heavenly sword seated at your side after hitting the credits, you can break through and change things if it belongs to you or even worse. I would have wanted to see more of this, but I’m grateful that adding a split pass that deviates significantly will probably require more work than you would expect.

Instead, development time is dedicated to creating dynasty warriors. All weapon types, from simple swords to the most exaggerated spears, are subjected to interwoven attacks that are different enough to exhilarate each weapon. The battle itself is a cathartic assault of heavy hits and flying enemies, and with the right attack, it is possible to send dozens (or hundreds) of men soaring through the sky. One-on-one battles with enemy generals do not lose their pace or intensity. A vast cleaning takes the backseat to counters and punishment, allowing for generous combos that juggle the broke between various attacks. That’s wrong. So I realized I was intentionally hoping for a fight. It didn’t necessarily have to be completed to take a sip of the action.
However, the game encourages a macro play style more than that. Your role in the fight is one of the roaming support, jumping on horses and rushing to allies in need, cut off reinforcements and quickly secure your base. You are rarely on the front line. Rather, like a maestro of murderous art, you can decide where your allies can go and change the fight with your favor. On that occasion, when you are at the tip of the spear, you will rush at full speed towards the enemy line and begin a collision with a dynamic charge/ambush system that will crash into the waves of soldiers with massive mass engagement. It’s a truly satisfying experience and deserves an epic historical battle that is based on everything.

I’m sitting here thinking about what more I want from the Dynasty Warriors. It will be shortened with origin. Yes, there is nitpick. After a while, I think Overworld will be a bit bland (there are so many crystals that you can pick up before traveling fast anywhere). For a while I wanted to mess with the big hammers and fans. You see them being used by enemy generals, but honestly, the choices available to players are sufficient. Maybe more dressed? I’m really digging into the bottom of the barrel here, and it praises the density of the game.
This is not only a game of great dynasty warriors, but it is also a good chance for historically favorable people to board. If you decide to pick up the Dynasty Warriors: Origins as the first title in the franchise will be featured in one of the most fun action series and There’s a historical story there. If you’re already a fan of dynasty warriors, you know what you’re into. Rolling up those sleeve companions, China will not save itself.
The game was reviewed on PC and the publisher provided the code. Dynasty Warriors: Origins will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X | s on January 17th.
