A moment has arrived where many people are waiting for us from Software fans. The studio’s experimental multiplayer-only offshoot, the Elden Ring Nightrign, has been released overnight worldwide.
Nightreign was a special release for a Japanese studio that has been renowned in many ways, and it clearly showed up no matter how rare the game from that team is.

On Steam, where Elden Ring Nightrign is currently top of Steam’s top selling charts, the game launched into a large, dedicated audience, winning spots on the platform’s highly competitive top five most played games.
This is the result of that simultaneous number of players, which is the metric based on the most played games list. Nightreign peaked very quickly with 313,593 concurrent players after it was released (via SteamDB), and at the time of this writing there are over 150,000 players in the game.
This is a pretty respectable turnout for any game, and Nightrign will be one of the best performing games on Steam in 2025. Given the game’s launch times on Thursday/Friday, there’s a chance that more players will jump in over the weekend, making these numbers even higher.
Obviously there is little insight into how well you’re doing on the console, but there’s a very good chance you’ll succeed there as well. As big as the turnout this day is close to Eldenling’s highest ever-growing 953,426 players. Nightreign had no hope of defeating or matching its huge peak, but it’s still worth keeping that in mind.
Even putting aside the games that produced it, Nightrign’s Steam Peak Concurrent far outweigh titles like Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, Sekiro: Die Twice, and Dark Souls games.

But just like professional critics, players’ emotions are divided into games. As things stand, there is a mix of overall ratings now, as 67% of reviews from 7,481 steam users are positive.
Believe it or not, the Eldenling itself began to wobble quite a bit on the Steam Review scale at each release. Ironically, many of the same complaints about performance issues and general stud sounds have now been reproduced. That said, Nightreign’s unique situation as a co-op-only game created its own set of grievances. Part of this has to do with the studio decisions surrounding the game, and is not necessarily in its technical state.
A review may resolve as the days pass and moves that rating positively. Until then, if you’re millions of people diving into non-terrestrial areas, our Eldenling Night League Guide is growing live. I recently updated it with a new build of Ironeye and Raider.
