FC 25 and eFootball face new rival, as free football game hits PC for first time

If that’s up to me, we’ll all go back to Pro Evolution Soccer 2 with commentary. “We Shake You” FMV is open. Hammer on a free kick between Del Piero and Roberto Carlos. However, the world of soccer games has moved forward. FIFA has isolated from the EA, announcing the arrival of FC 25, and my beloved PES has been mutated into an Efootball. I like the look of Rematch, a stylized, almost beat style alternative to SIFU developer Slocap, but in real simulation games it now feels like the FC series. But wait. After a handful of testing on other platforms, a fresh rival UFL It’s finally available for playback on your PC and is free.

The UFL, developed by XTEN, has been in production since around 2016 and was first released four years ago. The team names and badges are fictitious, but there is a complete roster of actual players. The interface and menu are designed to be streamlined more than the FC 25, and when matched with the Ultimate team (or the Ultimate team version of the UFL), all players on the team will receive XP and level up accordingly.

UFL is a free PC game, but to buy new and great players you will need both credit and reputation points. Credit points can be earned through play or by purchasing from the UFL Store for Real Money. On the other hand, reputation points can only be obtained by selling players, playing matches and winning, and progressing through the league system. In other words, it’s not just about buying a path to success. If you want the best team, you need to play consistently and win big games.

Passing is a little too accurate, especially on long distances, goalkeepers can be slow to respond. AI opponents are now a bit simplified, at least when moving the ball onto the field, and need to be very careful about tackles. Nevertheless, compared to the FC 25’s super-fast arcade style, it often feels like it lacks weight or physicality, but I feel that the UFL is slower and closer to a more intentional classic PES.

You cannot switch directions with pennies. You’re not just elastic turning around your markers. For some, this may feel too much like a simulation game rather than an energetic soccer game these days. But while still a bit basic right now, the UFL could be a change in pace that some players wanted.

And thanks to the new UFL Steam demo, you can try it on your PC for the first time. I’m still waiting to hear when the full game will be released, but if you want to sample this, go here.

Otherwise, try out other best free steam games or check out all the best PC games for the upcoming days.
