Late last week, Fortnite is squatting down an AI-driven conversation using the real voice of James Aearl Jones. It’s not just saying a lot of things that weren’t supposed to be – now the Sag-Ahura coalition is being led to file charges of unfair labor practices.
If not last week, Epic had to issue a patch to the bot immediately – with the approval of the family of deceased Vader VA Jones – because it was soon after it was released in the wild, players were able to say something that shouldn’t be. You know, you are vowing, slandering, chatting about your breasts.

Last night, Voice Action Union Sag-Aftra fast forward when he issued a statement about the AI Vader Bot, challenging the epic about what it was and filing an unfair labor practice charge to the US National Labor Relations Commission.
“We celebrate the rights of our members and their estates, welcome the use of new technologies to control the use of digital replicas and enable new generations to share the enjoyment of their heritage and famous roles,” Vader’s iconic rhythm and tone in video games.
“Fortnite signing company Llama Productions chose to replace the work of human performers with AI technology. Unfortunately, they did not provide an intention to do this and did so without negotiating on the right terms.
VG247 contacted Epic for comments.
So, if something comes from a coalition that challenges Rama Productions, which are allegedly said to not provide notifications of plans to use AI to create AI Vaders, what should we see. This is yet another chapter in the union, and the efforts of many voice actors to ensure protection against using AI to mimic voices, argued that it is an existential threat to their profession.
Ultimately, as the union claims here, having another actor who sounds like Jones deliver the audio line of Fortnite Vader was an alternative option to using her. As I said, Epic and Llama secured the correct permissions from those who represent the interests of the Ai emoled actor.
