I’m amazed at how well the city builder and survival game are. In theory, genres are mutually exclusive. The urban skyline and Manor Road assume the expansion, growth and accumulation of wealth and industry. Survival games (Project Zomboid is my personal favorite, but I go to the bat for the long darkness and forests) are the exact opposite. It’s all about having nothing, and even the poorest advancements and benefits are appreciated. Still, we’ve seen the unification of city builders and survival sims between Frostpunk 2 and Endzone. Dark Switchjust announced at a PC game show, it is a new ambitious example of this genre hybrid. Oh, and Silent Hill’s Akira Yamaoka is doing the soundtrack.
I think there is a little bit of mythological age here. The dark switch is set in an apocalyptic, apocalyptic fantasy world. It is still colorful and inhabited by magical creatures, but all the spread of malice known as the Fog has destroyed the entire territory. As the planet’s surface was instantly submerged, the last remains of Dark Switch society were evacuated to a giant tree. This is where things get tough. It’s a city building game with limited space and you have to accumulate, not on top of it.
Collect resources, investigate new technologies, and do everything possible to maintain population morale. It is recommended that you do not spread out somewhat outwards and establish a small front post base separate from the main tree city, but do not spray too thinly with scarce supplies. At various points, ominous deformities present in the mist will rise from the depths and attack the house. So Dark Switch will become part of the survival game as it protects normal relics by improvising weapons and defenses.
There is a 12-hour campaign with sandbox mode, a quest and branching story events, and over 80 building types. Yamaoka Akira In combination with Yamaoka’s score, Dark Switch already has many promises. You can keep it on your wish list here.
