June 2, 2025: We added the latest price forecast prior to the GTA 6 release date.
When will the GTA 6 come out? It’s not surprising considering how many years it will take to create an open world with the same caliber as the GTA 5 Rockstar Game I have already developed the GTA 6 for many years. Rockstar prefers to keep the secret close to the chest until it approaches the end of development, but Take-Two confirmed exactly when you can expect it to arrive.
The Grand Theft Auto 6 release date certainly took a long time. Early gameplay leaks in GTA 6 emerged online last year along with a line of open world games’ source code and development footage. Since then, there have been a lot of rumors and speculation surrounding the release date, but in the end GTA 6 Release Datestory, setting. This is all the latest information on GTA 6, including Trailers and News.
GTA 6 Release Date
GTA 6 release date is Tuesday, May 26th, 2026. This is the launch date for the Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5, but the release of the GTA 6 PC could arrive later that year.
According to the official PlayStation Store listing, GTA 6 will be released in midnight in all time zones. This incredible release means New Zealand will first have access to GTA 6, but the rest of the world will have to wait until it hits in the middle of the night in the time zone. In regions with multiple time zones, if the oldest time zone hits midnight, the full release will be displayed.
Rockstar Games has confirmed the launch date and delay of GTA 6 via its official X/Twitter account. “I’m very sorry that this is slower than I expected,” he said. “We hope you understand that you need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
Publisher Take-Two also places emphasis on startup delays. “We support a complete Rockstar game that takes additional time to realize our creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI,” CEO Strauss Zelnick said in an official statement.
The GTA 6 was originally scheduled for 2025 by Take Two during the quarterly revenue call for 2024. The official announcement included a statement from Rockstar Games founder Samhauser.
The first GTA 6 trailer sets a release year for 2025, and a follow-up press release from Rockstar PR revealed that this is a console-specific release date. This is the case for the revised date in May 2026, and we expect the release date for the GTA 6 PC to decrease by the end of the year.
There is also the latest news on where GTA 6 will become STEAM for those who prefer to play the game on Valve’s platform.
GTA 6 PC release date estimated
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick was addressed directly to the TD Cowen 52nd Annual Technology, Media and Telecom Conference on the release date of his GTA 6 PC. “Rockstar has an approach to the platform we’ve seen before and will make more announcements over time,” Zelnick said.
Zelnick later told IGN that Take-Two “will not be surprised to see that the trend continues as PCs become a much more important part of what was in the console business.” Although console sales have been declining in recent years, he speculates that a new generation of consoles and global tariffs will bring consumers back into its ecosystem. Nevertheless, he reiterated that “the trend you want to focus on is an increase in market share reflected in PCs.”
GTA 6 price
Industry analyst Matthew Ball predicts that in 2025 the GTA 6 will cost $100. This potential price hike will break the “$70 barrier” and pave the way for publishers and developers to fix industry deflation.
Take-Two has yet to confirm the cost of the GTA 6, but analysts say the $100 price tag doesn’t go beyond the realm of possibility. This is almost certainly true given the deluxe and collector editions that include premium products.
Take-Two shares received a massive jump in stock prices as a result of the launch announcement of GTA 6. Industry analysts claim that the GTA 6 is projected to generate only pre-order sales of over $1 billion. Crime Games are undoubtedly permitted to allow Take-Two to achieve its target of “net bookings above $8 billion and adjusted unlimited operating cash flow of over $1 billion.”
GTA 6 Game Pass
Whether it’s a console release or a PC release, there’s a certainty that Grand Theft Auto 6 won’t make it to the Game Pass on the first day. In a recent interview, Zelnick confirmed that a single GTA 6 Game Pass Day release will not be taking place.
For months between Rockstar and Sony, there have been ongoing rumours of a GTA 6 Marketing exclusive deal, with the release of Trailer 2 giving credit to its speculation. Not only was this trailer captured on the PS5, but with the introduction of controllers like the DualShock on Jason and Lucia’s coffee tables, we’re sure Rockstar isn’t actively courting the Xbox Game Pass.
GTA 6 delay
The GTA 6 delay was confirmed by Rockstar Games, which is set to miss the first 2025 release window. Rockstar remains firmly established that the GTA 6 launch was still on track at the beginning of the forecast release year, but this was assessed prior to the Take-2 Quarter Revenue Report in May.
Zelnick attributed the delays to the GTA 6 to the need for a “continuous polish.” The meaning here is that there are no systematic issues with development and the game itself may be fully functional. “Rockstar is trying to create the best thing anyone has ever seen in entertainment, not just interactive entertainment,” he told CNBC.
Obbe Vermeij, formerly a Rockstar technical director in 2014, has been heavily on the possibility of delays. “The decision to delay GTAIV was made four months before the original release date,” he wrote on X/Twitter. “And it’s hard to make a call. R* probably isn’t in a position to decide whether they’ll hit May Ice in 2025.”
The GTA 6 delays have been raised by the source several times in the past. A recent GTA 6 actor interview hinted at “another situation happening in the world that could be announced in 2025, 2026,” sparking fresh speculation that the release date might slip. However, the most important GTA 6 delayed rumors came from staff members of Gtabase, a dedicated rockstar news site.
“GTA VI is internally delayed by Rockstar Games and has already been decided in the early to mid-2026 release window,” allegedly on X/Twitter. The information is said to have been sourced from “multiple developers of two studios,” but Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier assured fans that the delays for this GTA 6 were not true.
A report by Kotaku in March 2024 suggested that Rockstar could miss the release window “because it is reportedly delayed in production.” Again, Shrier Rebuttal These claims are argued as “exaggerated concerns” after consulting his own source. According to Kotaku sources, the delay until 2026 will be considered a “fallback plan.”

GTA 6 trailer
The GTA 6 Trailer 2 fell on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, less than a week after confirming the release date. Introducing the two main characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, they reunite after Lucia leaves prison. Together, they embark on a Bonnie and Clyde-style crime beyond the songs of Vice City, with some selections from the GTA 6 soundtrack rounded out.
The description for Trailer 2 includes a complete overview of the GTA 6 story. “Jason and Lucia always knew the decks were piling up on them, but when the simple scores don’t work, they find themselves in the midst of a plot that stretches across Leonida.
The first GTA 6 trailer was released earlier than expected due to extensive leaks. Originally scheduled to drop on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, Rockstar Games was able to see it a day ago due to a violation. Trailer 1 is about 91 seconds long, confirming rumors that the series is back in Vice City. There are several notable GTA 6 locations, such as the Malibu Club and Ocean Drive.
The surprise release of Trailer 2 follows months of intense speculation. The date theory for one GTA 6 Trailer 2 release convincing fans that the surprise trailer drop was scheduled for seven months in advance. The theory has since been exposed, but it is worth keeping in mind that Rockstar has hidden GTA 6 Easter eggs in previous GTA online updates.
GTA 6 leak
In September 2022, 90 videos were leaked showing 53 minutes and 26 seconds of test footage in one of the biggest data breaches in history. Early test footage allowed players to take on the role of male and female characters, as reported by Bloomberg earlier that year.
One of the standout clips shows the players controlling Lucia as she and Jason embrace the diner like a couple at the end of pulp fiction. Other videos show Lucia standing on a street corner, watching traffic pass by in the daytime, showing Jason visiting a nightclub. The GTA 6 leaker has been arrested since the footage was released.
Another GTA 6 leak occurred in Tiktok a few days before the release date of the GTA 6 trailer. However, this leak was quickly hidden by the GTA 6 trailer itself and was leaked on X/Twitter within 24 hours of the official release. Rockstar Games responded by releasing a wholesale of the trailer shortly after the leak discovery, saying, “Our trailer leaked, so take a look at the real thing.”
GTA 6 News
Despite the large set of leaked game footage, Rockstar has issued a statement to clarify that the leaked early footage is “very disappointed,” but that “next Grand Theft Auto will continue as planned.” The developer also assures fans that they will “renew everyone right away and of course, they will properly introduce this next game when they are ready.”
At the very least, GTA 6 has been active since the community update on February 4, 2022, when Rockstar confirmed that “active development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto Series is on track.” As part of the studio’s announcement that it is holding back Red Dead Online support, Rockstar has confirmed that more resources have been repurposed to “the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto Series.”
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz in 2019, Zelnick suggested that better development tools and larger teams could shorten the gap between game releases. That also means “the game may be a little shorter,” but it still has robust support after its release.
Relaxing the crunch time for your GTA 6 is another reason why the next GTA 6 could be shorter. As Kotaku stated in his 2020 report, “A new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, a plan laid out by Management for the next game, is to start with a moderately sized release (still a big game by Rockstar standards).
GTA 6 Story
The GTA 6 trailer provided specific details surrounding the GTA 6 story. It will soon become clear that the GTA 6 is set in a modern-day sub-city, not in the 80s. The spread of social media posts offers quick snapshots of the exaggerated Miami daily life of rock stars, including crocodile wrangling, drive-by toe-kerking, and middle-aged women in knights and slippers equipped with two hammers.
Social media outlooks in the universe have appeared earlier in GTA 5, but this latest representation of sub-city already proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
The first appropriate introduction to Lucia, the first protagonist of the two main characters in GTA 6, also appears in Orange Prison attire, talking to a prison counselor. When asked why she went to prison, she shruggs: “I think it’s unlucky.” It’s unclear whether this cutscene will take place at the beginning and end of her story, but the GTA 6 story is set to diagrammatically chart her time course on the wrong side of the law.
We also get a glimpse of Jason, the second GTA 6 protagonist and Lucia’s crime partner, but he doesn’t seem to be a more prominent figure than Lucia. The two have an intimate relationship, but their romantic feelings towards each other are certainly tested.
In a short narration, Lucia tells Jason, “The only way to get through this is to stick with the team.” This teamwork is reflected in the difficult cutscenes as she flees the police in a getaway car. They also see multiple instances of convenience stores and other buildings, with faces becoming obscure and guns rising. For sure, this is one crime we don’t want to miss.
Trailer 2 featured new GTA 6 characters, including Jason’s friend and full-time conspiracy theorist Cal Hampton, club legend and drugs Kingpin Booby Ike, and viral rapper duo Real Dimes. Each of these characters has their own roles to play in the story of Jason and Lucia, but they all ultimately serve their own interests.
As for the cast, you may see GTA 6 John Cena characters taking part in the story. This follows an inexplicable Instagram post from the actor and the professional wrestler himself. This may just be an expression of excitement for the release date, but it doesn’t go beyond the realms of potential encountering Cena on average in Vice City in the future.
GTA 6 Gameplay
When it comes to GTA 6 gameplay that can be seen from the leak, it’s not that different from GTA 5. Exockstar developer Obbe Vermeij predicts that “people might be a little disappointed” in an interview with creator Sanin Spray on the release of GTA 6, but he still claims it is “the best game.”
As for the GTA 6 map itself, some fans have speculated that this version of Vice City and its surrounding area could be twice as much as the Los Santos in GTA 5, provided the calculations from the GTA 6 leak are true. Previous developers have suggested that GTA 6 maps need to be smaller and more densely packed. However, as leaks continue to flow from the Rockstar, Modders recreates the GTA 6 map of the GTA 5’s engine, providing a massive sense of that.
Rumors also suggest that the campaign’s map will be changed through the DLC, including updates to new or existing areas based on the themes the DLC has. As the new GTA online mode may take place in “Evolving Maps,” it is not just the campaign map that will change either.
As you can imagine, the driving vehicles include GTA 6 cars and boats, but public transport allows players to travel quickly around town. Additionally, the car appears to allow players to adjust wheel position, chair angle and other controls. Even if you choose to avoid it, former rockstar developer Ben Hinchcliffe argues that creative freedom is a priority and that “allows players to do (…) weird things.”
Some raw test footage shows in detail how the movement works, including cover systems, squatting and raw. Playable characters can also cover their faces with hands or GTA 6 weapons to prevent headshots. At some point in the footage, we see Jason looking at the convenience store, using his new vision capabilities. It’s similar to how Deadeye in Red Dead Redemption works, but now you just need to adjust the color of the video.
Recent reports suggest that the GTA 6 Metaverse is ongoing, similar to Fortnite and Roblox. This is driven by user-generated content, allowing creators to “change the game’s environment and assets to have their own intellectual property and potentially bring brand sponsorships to GTA’s virtual sandbox.” This comes after rumors that Rockstar Games contacted creators of Roblox and Fortnite to discuss how they would create custom GTA 6 in-game content.
And that’s the summary of GTA 6 Release Date Window News. There’s a long time to wait until the sequel of one of the best PC games arrives.
