Is Gran Turismo 7 Still a Must-Play Racer in 2025?

a A lot happens in a year, especially when it appears within the scope of live services. Sometimes it feels like a year can last forever, but looking back, years pass by a flash. This is a consideration Gran Turismo 7Polyphony Digital’s latest mainline title has successfully completed a successful SIM franchise. Even though it feels like three years has fallen compared to other games that received support after launch, it’s still strong and offers excellent content.

It’s not that it’s an easy crown to achieve, especially at the start. Despite being released in March 2022, a week after Eldenling, it was a huge success, and its release month was the highest growth in franchise history. It ranked second on the sales chart for the month. Critical praise was also fully strong, with Sony appearing to be poised for another first-party hit. This means that patches that are released immediately after release will increase the amount of grinding required, and even more microtransactions will be protruded.

Certainly there were other issues – always accessing the majority of content online (the stint of 30 hours of server maintenance) and the lack of a proper career mode chief among them. But crushing is better to ground more players’ gear. Thankfully, Polyphony Digital has addressed the issue of progress next month, adding new endurance racing events and “high rewards” to the circuit experience, while increasing rewards for circuits and online races in the later world.

Polyphony was committed to new courses of the time, cars, world circuit events, sports time trials and more. What we didn’t expect is how extensive the support will be. There were various tweaks, bug fixes, 64 songs music replays, and promised reward adjustments, but in June 2022 the actual content began to drop. Three New Cars – Suzuki V6 Escado Pikes Peak Special ’98, Suzuki Vision Grand sightseeing (GR.3 version) and the legendary 1932 Ford Roadster – was added to the game alongside Watkins Glen International. At the time, it probably didn’t look that big, especially after the controversy, but it started the rhythm of nearly a few days of updates that continues to this day.

Three more cars fell in July 2022. Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette Group 5’84, Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder ’54, and Porsche 918 Spyder ’13 – each catering to different enthusiasts. The August 2022 update further expanded the choice for the McLaren MP4/4 ’88 for Formula One enthusiasts, the Pontiac GTO ’69 for muscle car fans, the Porsche Cayman GT4 ’16, and even the gorgeous Demaso Mangasta (Christian Dior).

This update was marked for the first time when a new layout was added to an existing track, as players can choose between Rallycross, No Chicane (replaces the final corner with a faster right turn), and National layout. In September 2022, many more new cars were followed, including the prototype Volkswagen ID.R ’19, the Type S (S14) ’94 from the Nissan Silvia K, and the refined Porsche Vision Gran Turismo Spider.

Free car offerings began to increase slowly, but certainly in October with four new additions: the Masera Time Rak SS ’80, the Mazda Roadster NR-A (ND) ’22, and the Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R (KPGC110) ’73 and the GT-R NISMO GT3 ’18. In November, only three new vehicles were featured, including the BMW M2 Competition ’18, the Ford Sierra RS 500 Cosworth ’87, and the Nissan Silvia K Aero (S14) ’96, but they also added the “Petitle Man” home, the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta Atlanta Race Circuit.

It also marked the ability to sell cars, one of the most demanding features since its launch. Polyphony finished the year with a strong note with five more vehicles with Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo, Alfa Romeo Giulia Gtam ’20, Bugatti Chiron ’16, Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray ’20 and Toyota Celica Gt-Four Rally Car (ST205) ’95.

2023 marked the first anniversary of the title. However, a free update was released in February that added PlayStation VR2 support, and alongside the VR showroom, we’ve seen all the cars with support for all modes, races and split screens. We also marked the arrival of the GT Sophy. Gran Turismo Sports However, it was never available on the wider player base. This changed in the GT7 limited-time event “Race Together,” which allows players to compete against Race AI on four tracks. It ends later in March, but that’s not what we saw at Sophie’s last.

Apart from this, the February 2023 update added Classic Grand Valley, particularly one highway layout, and five new vehicles. Honda RA272 ’65, Italoen’s Ex-Neo Vision Gran Turismo Street and off-road mode, Citroen’s DS 21 Pallas ’70, and Porsche 911 Carrera RS (901) ’73. The March 2023 update for Polyphony did not release an update on the exact anniversary of its release, but it offered five 120 FPS support on the PS5 and, above all, two new Nurburgring layouts. Four more cars were followed in April, including the Dalala SF23 Toyota ’23 and Honda ’23.

Three more vehicles arrived in May. This includes the Nissan GT-R Nismo (R32) ’90, and another long estimated feature: engine swap. Collector level 50 people using GT Auto can now change the engine of their selected vehicle. Tuning Shop had a new category called “Ultimate,” which added rarer parts and expanded customization and tuning.

June was a relatively harmless update, but it was still important, adding two rally cars with Aston Martin Valkyrie ’21. This has added the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR ’95 and the Subaru Impress Sedan WRX STI ’04. Four new events, including Fisherman’s Ranch and Autopolis, have also been released across the world’s circuits, but Music Rally saw six new additions to its roster. If that’s not enough, you can join a new conversation with a selected character in the GT Cafe of a particular vehicle, access the new “Fanatec” section of the museum, and play with six new engine swaps.

No updates were seen in July as polyphony focused on competitive events such as the Maker Cup, Porsche Esport Challenge USA and Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup. In August, Grand sightseeing movie. While not the most critically acclaimed longshot, players were able to request in-game coloring exclusively for the GT-R Nismo GT3 ’18 and its film until late September. This adds to four more vehicles, including the first ambulance (Toyota Ambulance Himedic ’21) and the Toyota Grolla Morizo Edition ’22 (who had no need to spend any credits if he participated in the TGR Cup round).

September was on the small side with only three new vehicles, while October saw a single fix for application errors in daily and championship races. But that’s because they were preparing for a massive drop in November. Say hello to Spec 2. This added a whopping seven new cars, including the Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi ’68, Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II ’91, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) ’22.

Lake Louise served as the latest circuit, offering three layouts, each with an ice road that required snow tires. The weekly challenge brought a new series of events to complete special rewards while GT Sophy returned permanently. Now you can compete with it in Quick Races (formerly Arcade Races), complete 50 new expert assignments with the new Master License, and engage in 4 players split screen plays and more on the PS5.

Given the size of the update, it makes sense that December was bare. Polyphony has held several login campaigns with daily rewards and special car tickets to thank the fans for their support Gran Turismo Sportsits online service will end in January 2024.

Of course, monthly updates have been revived in the month, including three new vehicles. GenesisXGran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept, Bvlgari Aluminium Vision Gran Turismo, Suzuki Jimny XC ’18, all-terrain vehicles. The Jimny Cup was also available as a new event, with the new Vision Gran Turismo Trophy Race being playable on the Tokyo Expressway and Autodromona Giona Lemonza.

Grand Tourism 7-Patch 1.59

Until June 2024 (no updates were seen), Polyphony Digital added 14 new vehicles, including the Gran Turismo exclusive vehicles, as well as the new world circuit event, Shakoda Vision Grand Turismo. It is also worth pointing out that GT Cafe, which acted as a de facto career mode, also received the update as players collected the vehicles and completed the tasks while learning more about each manufacturer.

Above the base 39 there were 11 “ends” bonus books that were organized into global circuit events and awarded tickets for random cars and parts vehicles or roulette along with credits. You can also complete the required collector level once you reach the required collector level, allowing you to award vehicles and even more roulette tickets. Of course, we expanded the scape in dozens of new locations for players to take photos of the car.

Six new vehicles were introduced in July 2024, including the Ferrari 430 Scuderia ’07, Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 ’08, and Subaru Impreza Rally Car ’98, along with the classic Eiger Node Wand Circuit. There have also been major updates in the physics model, improving tire response. Weight shifting corners, tire heating, and tire wear are also more realistic.

The next content update arrived in October, the biggest gap to date, with three new cars, five world circuit events, two additional trucks for GT Sophie, newer character conversations and 10 new engine swaps. However, in November we saw the arrival of PS5 Pro support, with Ray trace reflections, 8K resolution support, improved VR mode quality, and new modes that take advantage of PSSR, which offers better image quality and higher frame rates. Five new cars, three new world circuit events, additional engine swaps, new wheels for three brands, and additional branded decals are also available.

So far, 2025 has continued to be exceptional support in May with the addition of 14 new cars added to the world circuit, GT Cafe Menu, Scape and trucks to compete with GT Sophie. It was a long journey and although it could stand to improve in some areas, Gran Turismo 7 It’s a very different beast from when it was released in terms of content and gameplay, and perhaps the best modern racing sim. Even if it has a heavy legacy to keep it alive, we are excited to see where Polyphony Digital will film it next.
