Whether you’re playing the original Half Life or the beloved Remake Black Mesa from Crowber Collective, essentially the approach to any fight is running and guns. As far as HECU soldiers and Xen aliens are concerned, between the immeasurable destructive power of the turbo boost HEV suit and the Gaussian gun, Gordon Freeman is just an orange blur that gushs out death. Rogue Points Very, very different. Death is quick, tactics are essential, and even one enemy can ruin your day. Crowbar Collective allows you to go back to a simpler, purer FPS game and is fascinated by Payday 2, Tarkov, Rainbow Six Vegas and even a bit of a left four-person element, but Half-Life Remake Dev also has its own ideas.
Form a team of up to four players. There is no PVP. Each level of the Rogue Point campaign begins with a briefing screen where you select an insertion point, purchase gear, and build a loadout. Weapons and equipment are exchanged with every fresh run, similar to the counter strike purchase menu. Once you reach your goals or complete a scoring kill, you earn dollars in the game and exchange them for gear when you start a new map. Create a Roguelike element, but keeps the FPS quick and lean. It’s not about progression. That’s not about perks. It’s not about XP, levels, and your personality. The focus of the injustice is cooperation.
Some missions are simple terrorist hunting. Find the bad guys, eliminate them all, and don’t be killed. Others involve securing Intel and rescuing hostages. Bust to reach highlands via blocked doors, foldable ladders, and other gadgets such as lock picks and stun grenades can give you the advantage. Spray and Please is not an option here. There is body armor, but when it depletes, it takes up to 3-4 hits to put you. Each level contains only a few enemies, but one of them is enough to kill you.
You can zoom slightly by pressing the mouse wheel, but there are no ads in Rogue Point. Instead, you rely on the cover. Crowbar Collective created a very simple and very smooth peak system. Stacked on a wall or hard surface, you can release it by pressing and turning the yuan into a corner and returning back to the dirt. The movement is heavy and intentional. You need to stay low, keep your ears open and communicate with your team.
However, even when we invite this kind of complex, brain approach, the rogue points do not shake with menus and long load times. Speaking to us in February, Adam Engels, head of Crowbar Collective Studio, explained that the total steam download at that time was over 6GB. Engels said it could increase the size, but it was still only 8GB when I downloaded the PlayTest build.
Similarly, the Roguelike-style loadout screen and streamlined progression and build management allow you to launch, find your team and enter the game in an instant. The actual gameplay of Rogue Point is painstaking and tense, as tactical shooters should be. But in a broader sense, “games” are incredibly zippy. It feels more “multiplayer” than “live service.”
And now you can try it yourself. The first public playtest for Rogue Point will be featured as part of the Steam Next Fest, which runs from Monday, June 9th to Monday, June 16th. If you would like to participate, please visit here.
