Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 review: the new 4K graphics card to go for

Are the genus of graphics cards written as dramatically as the GeForce XX80S? The RTX 3080 is of beauty and is only compromised by the worst Wheeler-Dealing Spree (and Crypto Mining Misupration) in PC components history. The RTX 4080 then rocked at a price tag of £1269/$1199 that was easy to laugh at. This was a very serious miscalculation, and the RTX 4080 Super looks better. For the new RTX 5080, you’re pretty much want It’s boring.

it’s not. But it’s not a blood boiler like the RTX 4080, nor a largely ambitious showature like the RTX 5090. Especially when 4K monitors are making the most of them.

It’s certainly a smarter purchase than the RTX 5090 for high lesbian gameplay. The founder’s version like I’m testing here will return the price of £979/$999, or about half the price of the next (and final) RTX 50 model in the pile. Additionally, although it has the same 16GB of 256-bit VRAM as the 4080 and 4080 Super, it is still sufficient for all the resource eaters in the AAA industry, and has been upgraded to GDDR7 for additional bandwidth. Get the Founders Edition and you’ll be able to bag the same lovely metallic design and effective dual-fan cooler that the RTX 5090 FE has, and drive even colder thanks to the low power needs of the RTX 4080.

Certainly, it’s still a thirsty creature: nvidia requires at least 850W PSU to run it, and its maximum usage is rated at 360W toast. However, unlike the RTX 5090 FE, the RTX 5080 FE actually achieved the limit and did not record a peak at 322W while running the game. The GPU temperature was high at 64°C, and the 5090 was also a 9° cooler. look? Wise. you know.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Review: 4K Benchmark

Even the tough runners these days, the biggest and most frightening of mainstream monitor resolutions won’t bother the RTX 5080 A Giotto. The RTX 5090 is even faster, but the RTX 5080 can always match most of the sibling’s frames with half the second cash. It is also an elite juicy upgrade of the RTX 30 series. This is an encouragement if you are upgrading from an older card. It is also somewhat similar to the RTX 4090, which is over £1,300 on the second-hand market at the time of writing.

Avid bar chart fans may remember that the RTX 4080 completely defeated the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 TI. I hope the RTX 5080 will give more speed boost to rasterized native lesbian games than the RTX 4080 Super, but I’m not sure if that’s particularly big.

To see this you will need to temporarily apologise and return to your old RPS test rig and its core i5-11600K. The Cyberpunk 2077 sees a decent bump and goes up from the 51fps (ultra setting) on the 4080 Super to 71fps, while the 81fps on the latest GPU on the F1 22 (ultra high) is only a 12fps increase. Neither of the Metro Exodus improved, with an average of 99fps at the 4080 Super and 106fps at 5080.

However, none of these RTX 40 series cards are a full suite of DLSS 4 frame rate muscle tools. One of my personal favorites of these, but the new Trans Model option for upscaling improves overall image quality in exchange for a smaller performance boost – teeth Headline Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) available on older RTX models is exclusive to the RTX 50 series. And this actually allows you to fine-tune the RTX 5080 past the RTX 4090, at least in terms of purely visible smoothness.

If you’re not familiar, MFG adopts AI Frame Generation DLSS 3, allowing you to throw anywhere between 1-3 frames for each frame your PC actually renders. This adds some additional input lags, and not necessarily feel It’s smoother (as the generated frame doesn’t take into account mouse movement or keyboard pressing), but the visual effects can actually be very visible. With the RTX 5080, MFG opens up the possibility of framerates above 60FPS, combining 4K with some of the most demanding ray tracing and path tracing effects in the business. All three games I have tried have applied the 4x Frame Gen option to exceed the RTX 4090, where the DLSS 3 version maximizes the maximum equivalent to the 2X setting in MFG.

Outside of the benchmark nerd, everything appears to be playable, but Alan Wake II started to turn on 4x MFG and push 100ms latency. Perhaps if the upscaling of the DLSS is balanced from quality, then it will bump up the base of the non-AI frame for 37 seconds. It further improves visual smoothness while increasing responsiveness. Otherwise, DLSS 4 has made a compelling argument courtesy of the RTX 5080, and 75 compatible games confirmed, giving you a life that is much more widely supported than rival frame Gen Tech like FSR 3 and Xess 2.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 Review: 1440p Benchmark

Just like before, whatever 4K can do, 1440p can do faster. If you redirect all your monitor upgrade budgets to a GPU fund, there is a good reason to choose RTX 5080 for this solution. The CPU bottleneck opens up the tall poppy of the RTX 5090, allowing this inexpensive card to stay pace more effectively, narrowing the gap with the RTX 4090, and narrowing down the styling with the RTX 3090.

That said, it’s definitely worth waiting for the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti at this stage. The RTX 5080 is definitely a 1440p Bernstormer, but unlike 4K, you may feel that you are paying for more power and features than you can use. For example, 4x MFG is not useful as the frame rates that can be obtained without it are already sky-high. Get Cyberpunk 2077 with mental raytracing. The RTX5080 can run at 106FPS with quality level DLSS upscaling. Most monitors cannot even display all the additional AI frames, even if the eyes cannot perceive such a difference in speed. Reducing returns is very effective.

Again, some games have double frame Gen cases. The F1 24 is a 116FPS to Ultra High Rose from 116FPS with only high quality DLSS to 148FPS with frame GEN, which actually has a noticeable (in the case of minor) smoothness improvement. The RTX 5080 is clearly not a bad GPU with Quad HD. It would be interesting to see if the more affordable RTX 5070 Duo can make a more appropriate match, as it is not the best resolution to spread the DLSS4 wing.

Or AMD’s Radeon RX 9070, maybe. The FSR 4 has its own soup-up DLSS rival, which seems to be a simpler 2x frame generator with the DLSS 3 vein. With the faster, more flexible MFG, the pinsharp trans model option on the DLSS 4, and the historical advantages of the GeForce line of ray and path tracing, it is difficult to see how such an RDNA 4 GPU can stand up to the RTX 50 series of features.

In the case of 4K, the RTX 5080 is something you’ll defeat anyway. It’s cooler, more efficient (well, it doesn’t count potential stock shortages), is dramatically achievable than the RTX 5090, and has enough muscle for smooth and maximum performance. Is it just as adorable as its poor, reseller-abused RTX 3080? Not so much – the bigger jump from the RTX 4080 Super would have been appreciated. But overall it’s a better deal than both the Super and the original RTX 4080, especially when you start exploiting more advanced technology. Not to mention the 4080s, this technology will help keep the RTX 4090 alive.
