It’s been almost six years since developer Alex Massé (of the fame of Pewdiepie’s Tuber Simulator) announced his Indie Life Simpara Live. Now, the game has finally reached its early access release date. This is thanks to her appearance at the PC game show at Summer Game Fest last night. And as promised, it will come out this year – you have to wait until December 8th To get it like this painting of Sims.
The project was born as a solo effort for Massé, but the Paralib team has now expanded to around 12 developers, supported by Patreon, drawing around $30,000 a month from fans who are eager to EA’s long-term Sims franchise.

Paralib clearly takes many cues from Life Sim Giant, which is now doing a full quarter-century round, and encountering the core gameplay loop will make the long-time Simmers familiar scaffolding. But there is much to recommend paralib in its own merit, from its soft, stylized art style that promotes crowd-pleasing comfort, to its flexible, stylized art style that aims to love details beyond its vast range, to its approach to a rich, fundamental approach.
The release date trailer confirmed my suspicion that Paralib could be considered a spiritual successor to the Sims’ early generations. Paralib also appears to be very grounded – there are no signs of the urban fantasy theme that frequently slips into the Sims (I love it for the records, but I realize that not all Simmers do) – the trailer focuses on the middle-class suburban ideals that were characteristic of Sims at the time.
I drink coffee with friends, go to yoga classes, catch them with five kids, adorable 2 points on a well-maintained lawn, then breaking down sobs in the toilet when my family is in bed.
Massé’s team previously claimed they plan to keep Paralib Add-ons free to all players – in stark contrast to EA’s practice of expanding SIM with countless paid DLCs at various prices.
In this week’s news, Sims aren’t the only ones to paralib. It appeared after fellow Sims rival Inzoy went into hiding and announced the release date for its first major content update since its release. This update ultimately reminds us to properly enable romances of the same gender (just in time for Pride Month!) and marks the very long-awaited arrival of mod support.
