It’s been nearly ten years since Ubisoft first launched the Rainbow Six Siege. Since then, multiplayer FPS has improved dramatically, attracting dedicated audiences and solidified itself as one of the best options in the genre, including PUBG, Valorant and Marvel Rivals. To keep that momentum going on after 10 years, Ubisoft issued a drastic overhaul of the siege with today’s launch Rainbow Six Siege x. This decision was only a few hours long, as the game already attracts a massive player base and strong reviews on Steam, but this decision appears to have been a good one.
Rainbow Six Siege X gains the foundation of a long-term FPS game and activates it with many changes. What’s immediately noticeable is the visual rework that applies to five maps at launch, tinkering with the ability to photograph and destroy objects such as pipes and fire extinguishers. The renewal also offers a new 6V6 mode called Dual Front, allowing previous siege players to take over progress and receive rewards based on how long they have played, and maintain their ability to enter the mode even before X activates.
So far, Siege X has been doing well with the players. User reviews not only have been shot upwards in the time since launch, but also reach the highest number of players in over a year. At the time of writing, the game has 134,366 active players, down from today’s 24-hour peak of 142,025. This 24-hour peak has been the most active player since April 2024, reaching 156,080.
