PlayStation’s Bigwigs are happy to stick with its current approach to multi-platform releases for now, so it’s unlikely that they’ll suddenly switch to the PC ports of Sony’s big single-player games.
Slayptation makes sense because it brings Studios multiplayer and live service games to PC upon release, and tries to enable the largest potential player bases from the gate, such as Helldivers 2, Er, and Concord. On the other hand, for single-player like God of War Ragnarok and Tsushima’s Ghost, they were happy to wait a year for other video game boxes.
Based on what Hermen Hulst, the boss of the Studio Business Group on PlayStation, said at today’s Sony corporate meeting, console makers are pleased with Zig, whose rival on Xbox is Zagging, keeping it exclusive for the year and trying out the PS5 player stock as much as possible.
“In particular the single-player aspect, in our tent pole titles, they are such a differentiator,” executives reiterate (thank VGC), “The point of differentiation, for the PlayStation console, they are showing the performance and quality of the hardware.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki nishino took the same line and when asked about Xbox’s approach, the PlayStation emphasized that it was vigilant and listened to players to “serve properly” the most corporate guy combo of words they read this week.
The bit about listening to players is interesting considering the negative reputation PlayStation has gained in communities of games like Helldivers 2 due to the impact on PC gamers in areas where PSN is not working, as PSN accounts are forced to link.
But even if it means time to mess with our people’s thumbs on our big computers, you can see the logic that continues to keep the console maker.
