Shooty Shooty Robot Invasion looks like a boomer shooter for the Newgrounds generation, and it's out next month

Every time I write about Shooters, I need to add a warning along the line “I don’t really like Shooters…but!” Do you know, as it often does, but sometimes it feels like it’s getting me? This week, it’s a shooter that feels like it was born as a flash game in the new ground of the mid-2000s. It’s called the shooting shooter robot invasion and is as simple as its title, but there’s a lot to it.

One is made by Bubby Darkstar, the same developer behind the 2021 Metro Midnight. This is the game I’m always surprised unless I’ve reached the obsessive fanbase enough to get it. While Subway Midnight is already a visually surreal pleasure, the invasion of shooter-like shooting robots appears to increase the ball to the Zanines factor of the wall. It appears that there are over 200 NPCs who “interact and have terrible conversations.” These are all hand-drawn and are incredible feats of thinking they are one or more development teams.

It also has over 50 unique robots, dozens of bosses, a man named “The Real Freak” and six levels that roam around. Gameplay looks like your classic boomer shooting game, along with some strange things, through adventure time, many guns to find and use many regular guns. This is worth playing if you’re just an animation lover. The colours are so lively, and I feel like some of the designs on display were born to turn into Twitter profile pictures (but when Twitter is not now, sometimes okay, and not a constant hell fire).

The trailer also clearly points out that no drops of generated AI are used. This is a disclaimer that I hope that I don’t have to be there, but I’m glad to see the same thing. The release isn’t too far. It is currently scheduled to be released next month, July 10th. In the meantime, you can get your wish list on Steam here.
