The Darktide Arbites class adds a new dynamic to the Warhammer 40k co-op shooter

New release Warhammer 40k Darktide Class, Arbito is trying to translate the dynamics of a Grimdark Co-op FPS. Fat Shark’s cruel and chaotic hordes shooter are Birmintide 2’s futuristic, heavy metal brothers, and despite early teething problems, it now feels like they’re in a good place. The steam reviews are positive, with major updates set to improve both progression and onboarding for new players. And the first Darktide DLC is ready to unleash a fresh presence in the proceedings. I’ve tried looking at the arbitrary early, but I can’t wait for the full release.

One of the main reasons to consider Darktide among the best Warhammer 40K games on PC is the various play styles on offer. Four existing dark tid classes (Psyker, Veteran, Zealot, and Ogryn) each bring something unique to the battlefield, but Fatshark was able to carve out another different space for the newcomers. Arbito marks the first dedicated companion in the Stomping FPS game with action by Cyber Mastiff, but that’s only the beginning.

On a basic level, adeptus arbites differ from their dark layer counterparts. After going through the same complete setup process to build characters (and dog companions), these are not rejected. They are already stationed at Tertium and have been taking action in your favor to change the tide of battle. So there is a new prologue that represents a unique path to Morning Star. They are also naturally more specialized in their attitudes than the rejection classes reflected in their dialogue.

You have male and female variations for authoritarian, deadly style, or mall style, with six personality options to choose from. Personally, I have already chosen to commit to Devola Wilde (Räsel at Gate 3 at Bardour), but Bermintid’s stubbornness is delighted to hear the voices of Kerillian, Alix Wilton Regan. You can also adjust the fur color and pattern of the Cyber Mastiff to determine if you can see more natural features or if you want to choose a more complete robot look. It also has the ability to turn on visual highlighting if you need it to help you track its location.

Of course, this is all set up for real business: crushing chaos. As an empire of human riot police officers, the arbitos are fully equipped to be closed and personal in the thick of things, and their toolkit reflects that. They have four main attack options exclusive to their class, but they can also pick up many other Darktide weapons. Arbit Shotguns are particularly powerful – so the Fat Shark had to regain the balance to help all existing shotguns fit into the power of the rookie. It boasts an extra charge that can temporarily lock a few enemies that cannot be destroyed immediately.

Arbites Shock Maul is your standard proximity option and gives you the ability to push troublemakers into the ground when things get too busy. To step up it, you can combine enhanced attack shields and Dominator Mall to turn you into a full-on tank. The meter is displayed on the back of the shield. This can be filled as you block the attack and can be spent on the big power emissions that stuff everyone in front of you. Even more versatile is the combination of shields and shot pistols, which gives you amazing range on actual kicks if you can land your shots accurately.

As for Cyber Mastiff, he follows you and automatically attacks nearby enemies, but quickly jumps by pointing to elites and specials, pinning them and negating their actions. This can be supplemented by options in the Arbit Skill Tree, such as Remote Explosion. This is a charge-based ability to cause explosions around puppies that will make nearby enemies a stag and electrocut them. Your alternative here is Voltech Shock Mine and Arbitrator Ren’s bullet if you want to take the lead yourself.

The Voltaic Shock mine can be thrown to lock down the zone for 15 seconds and deliver vicious electricity to anyone nearby. This is the ideal way to seal the chokepoint or cover your back in situations where you are surrounded. That’s exactly what a hand-held bullet sounds like. There’s nothing flashy here, but it explodes with impact with a wide range of impressive damage, making it a great addition to your kit if you want to keep things simple.

In the ability of things, the arbito can employ the castigger attitude and become “virtually immortal” for 10 seconds while maintaining high mobility. This will not allow you to sprint, but it has high basic movements and ignores movement speed penalties. Alternatively, Break the Line is a positive bash that stops enemies badly while buffing your damage and temporarily collides. Finishing the option is Nuncio-Aquila, a deployable broadcast drone that buffs all nearby allies while blowing away enemies nearby. You and your team still have to do dirty work on their own, but you’ll spend a much easier time within the Aquila radius.

In addition to these abilities, there are all other aspects of the high-tech tree. This provides three main paths and many extra side branches. Fat Shark roughly describes the playstyle trio as investigators, space cops and enforcers. Investigator Node focuses on the skills of Arbitos as an animal handler and the ability to chase the perpetrator at speed. Space cop talent makes you “mercilessly cruel.” The enforcer side of the tree can build “the most taxist human character ever.”

Of course, you can freely combine and match nodes to suit your personal preferences. The result is a class that satisfies role-playing fantasy as an elite soldier, while also providing several new ways to approach the numerous modes currently available in Darktide.

Arriving with DLC, it’s a free update that will enhance fresh Vo and new movie onboarding and early story experiences. If you are an existing player, you don’t need to go through this, but if you want to see it, the options are there. The difficult progression has also been overhauled. Fatshark admits that players rank too fast, in the old way of unlocking difficulties based on account levels. Now your progress is based on your performance. Existing players don’t have to redo everything as they translate the old rank into the new system, but newcomers should be more welcoming to the experience.

Darktide Arbites will be released on Monday, June 23rd and costs $11.99. A deluxe edition with additional classes and companion outfits, portrait frames and four weapon skins is available for $18.99. You can request it now so that you will be notified when you arrive.
