Undertale spinoff Deltarune soars on Steam as Chapters 3 and 4 finally arrive

One of the most surprising and unprecedented indie hits of the 2010s was undoubtedly the Undertail, but the spinoff for that episode was Deltarenehighly regarded and loved. Developer Toby Fox has already released the first two episodes of Deltarn in 2018 and 2021, but the wait times for chapters 3 and 4 were long. But now they are both here as part of the complete and “final” version of Deltarune. It will always be an important opportunity for Pixel Art RPGs, but it has risen above recent giants like Elden Ring Nightreign on the platform’s bestseller list, completely blown away by how high they are flying with the steam right now.

Undertale is a precious indie game thanks to its visuals, soundtracks and storytelling influenced by its choices. But even before Undertale came out, it was Deltarune who was working on it. This is a spinoff that spends a lot of the same gameplay equations (and even some of the characters in Undertale) and ports them into “parallel” stories and worlds.

Fox has been chipping at Deltarune since 2012, but so far, there have only been two episodes that have seen the light of day. The developers have promised that chapters 3 and 4 will arrive at the same time – in the future, bundled with 1 and 2, and after 13 years of work, the day has finally arrived.

The complete collection of chapters 1 to 4 of Deltarune is now available on Steam. Fans of Fox’s work flocked to the crowd. At the time of writing, over 133,000 people currently play Deltarune on Steam, and that number could rise by the end of today. More people are currently checking out new chapters than they’re playing big hits like Marvel Rivals, Apex Legends, and Helldivers 2.

It also features a direct shot at the top of Steam’s top-selling charts, sitting on top of the recent Megahit Elden Ring Nightrign and the imminent dune awakening.

Chapters 1 through 4 are available in new releases of Deltarn, but Fox pledges that the fifth chapter will arrive as a free DLC for those who already own the game. If you want to try it before you buy, the free demo allows you to play the first two chapters released previously. You can grab Deltarune or download the demo here.
