Wahey, Cyberpunk 2077's sequel has entered pre-production, and it looks like it might actually be called Cyberpunk 2

Good news for Wednesday! The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel has officially entered the pre-production stage of development, CD Projekt confirmed. Also, the game appears to have abandoned its codename Project Orion, but instead it is called only Cyberpunk 2.

The news was announced as part of the studio’s latest financial results presentation. As CDProjekt prepares to release its first game in the Nintendo Switch 2 series, we congratulate the Cyberpunk sequel team on hitting this milestone.

“A few weeks ago, the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the concept phase of the project,” CD Projekt released these results.

Check out the full presentation and you can see that as of April 30th this year, the number of CDPR developers working on Cyberpunk 2 is currently 96 years old, and has risen since February this year. As of that April date, it’s a bucket drop compared to the 422 listed as working on the more dense Witcher 4, but it’s still the second-largest under-staffed project in the studio. This excludes 131 developers in the “shared services” sector, which handles common things like localization and quality assurance across multiple games.

The release comes alongside news that the Phantom Liberty expansion has now shifted 10 million copies, and that copies of The Witcher 3 have landed with 60 million copies as they celebrated the birthday of the 10th graders. It is a number of visitors to Dogtown and the grumpy young monster hunting.

It would be interesting to see whether CD Projekt sticks to the Cyberpunk 2 moniker or ultimately chooses to shift to something of the year.
