Warren Spector's Thick As Thieves shows off sneaking in emergent thunderstorms and grappling hooks

Nothing makes you feel like sneakers wearing despicable thieves in video games than discovering windows on the roof that the developers have left in a very obvious place. Deus ex Creator Warren Spector introduced pre-Alpha footage tonight, and while he doesn’t pretend that he’s not a mechabellum, he’s likely to play PVP anytime soon, he’s still enjoying how he adapted some of the classic immersive SIM DNA specter known for its competitive form.

“We’re trying to get all the bells and whistles in an immersive stealth game,” says other Shafi Adams. “It’s hidden in the shadows. Understand the NPC path and vision cone, and timing your movements. Lock-picking a guarded location.” According to him, “X Factor” is the presence of other players. “I don’t know what other players are doing,” says Valerie Cromas, another player. “Are they going to pickpocket me?” I mean, it’s probably not, but now you said it. It looks like a trap.

This footage shows several tools, including grappling hooks, smoke grenades and bonking clubs. The audio director of the game also spoke about the importance of sound to safely avoid levels to complete personal quests, providing examples of emergency thunderstorms and passing trains to cover footprints.

The most important part of this presentation has, of course, revealed that Spector owns a boxed copy of Games Workshop’s Dark Future. I… borrow your dark future, Warren? Jeremy Peel recently gave a big interview with Greg Ropiccolo and Spector on Thief Thickness. Why didn’t you ask him if he could borrow his dark future?
