Xbox and AMD Enter Multi-Year Partnership for Next-Generation Consoles

Microsoft is working on the next generation of Xbox hardware despite its challenges to make it public on other platforms and handheld spaces. Xbox President Sarah Bond has revealed that together with AMD, the company has “joined a new annual partnership that co-designs “device” in your living room and in your hands, through a portfolio of devices including the next-generation Xbox consoles.”

“At Xbox, our vision is to play the games you want with the people you want and with the people you want. So we’re investing in the next generation of hardware lineup of consoles, handhelds, PCs, clouds and accessories,” Bond says. Despite the shelves rumours, it appears that the company is still pursuing a handheld Xbox.

Bond added that the companies are “advancing cutting edge art in gaming silicon to deliver next-generation graphics innovations, enhancing visual quality, immersive gameplay and player experiences with the power of AI, enhancing compatibility with existing Xbox games’ libraries.”

To that end, we want to create a platform where we are “always with you” to play the game “via device, anywhere.” Another interesting bit revolves around “providing a player-designed Xbox experience,” which is “not locked to a single store or tied to a single device.” This is tied to rumors about the next generation of Xbox, allowing you to install Steam and the Epic Games store.

“That’s why we’re working closely with the Windows team to make sure Windows is the biggest platform for gaming. The next generation of Xbox is now possible. This is just the beginning. I can’t wait to show you what’s next.”

The partnership itself isn’t surprising, but the AMD chipset supplies power to both the Xbox Series X/s and the PS5 (and the rumored PS6 handheld). It appears Microsoft’s plans are beyond new hardware. Once it’s revealed, we won’t be able to see it yet, so please look forward to the update.

In the meantime, Rog Xbox Ally has begun this holiday season, with rumors showing its release in late October. The price has not been decided yet, but the Xbox Ally reportedly costs $499, while the Ally X is for sale for $799.
